Wellness apps have a habit of treating your data as their asset. You generate it, they hold it, and the value flows one way.
DAOasis is trying to build the opposite relationship — and the honest version of that sentence includes the part where we tell you what we have not built yet.
What DAOasis uses
The Companion App is designed around six kinds of participation. That list is short on purpose — it is what the product needs, not everything a phone could report.
Steps, sleep, hydration, breathing, nutrition, and what you learn and complete. That is the list.
How it works
Wellness information reaches DAOasis in one of three ways, and how confident we can be about an action determines how it is credited. Auto-verified actions carry the most weight, manual logs less, and honour-system entries least. That tiering exists so that people who do the work are not levelled with people who tap a button.
Connecting a health platform is a convenience, never a requirement. It exists so you are not retyping a step count your phone already has. You can use DAOasis without connecting anything, and you can disconnect at any time — in DAOasis, and in the platform's own settings.
Why we use it
Every use has to earn its place. These are the reasons wellness information is processed at all:
- To provide the experience you asked for. The app is a participation tracker. Without the participation data there is no app.
- To track progress. Moving your journey forward, holding your streaks, showing you where you are.
- To support quests. Confirming that an action happened, at the level of confidence that action allows.
- To recognise participation. Calculating the DRC that reflects what you actually did.
- To provide insights. Showing you patterns in your own behaviour — this is a reflection of your data back to you, not an assessment of your health.
- To improve the product. Understanding which features help and which do not, using aggregated and de-identified information wherever that is enough.
- To keep the system honest. Detecting fabricated participation, which would devalue everyone else's.
DAOasis does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and nothing in the app is medical advice. Insights are informational reflections of your own logged activity. If you have a health concern, speak to a qualified healthcare professional — and do not delay doing so because of anything an app told you.
What we will not do
Commitments are only meaningful when they rule something out. These are the things DAOasis has decided against — not things we are considering and may revisit.
Blockchain and health data
DAOasis has a Web3 layer, so this question deserves a direct answer rather than a careful one. There are two parts to it, and they must not be blurred together.
DAOasis does not store health data on a blockchain. Wellness information is not written to any public ledger, is not tokenised, and is not made permanently and publicly readable. There is no product feature that does this, and none is being shipped while this page says otherwise.
Future direction
DAOasis is exploring whether future infrastructure could give individuals greater control over verified achievements, credentials or selected wellness information — the idea being that a person could prove something about their own record without handing over the underlying data, and could carry that proof with them rather than leaving it inside one company's database.
That is genuinely interesting, and it is also why the Web3 Track, one of the two DAOasis learning tracks, teaches it. But it is a direction of exploration, not a current feature, and there is a real distance between the two.
Any future implementation would have to address, at minimum:
- Permanence. A public ledger cannot be edited or deleted. Anything written to one is written for good, which sits badly with a right to erasure.
- Consent. Meaningful, specific, informed and withdrawable — which is difficult to reconcile with a record that cannot be withdrawn.
- Privacy. Whether something can be proved without exposing the data behind it, rather than merely obscuring it.
- Security. Key loss is unrecoverable. A design that loses someone's health record because they lost a phrase is not an improvement.
- Data control. Whether the person genuinely holds it, or simply holds a pointer to something someone else controls.
- Applicable law. Health and sensitive-data law across every jurisdiction DAOasis operates in.
If and when something is built here, it will be described on this page in the present tense, with its actual scope — and it will be optional. Until then, this section is the complete position.
No, your sleep score is not going on a blockchain. We are exploring whether you could one day prove things about your own record without giving the data away — but that is an idea we are working on, not a feature you have.
Your control
Control means specific, usable things rather than a sentiment. Subject to applicable law and to what has been built at the time you ask, you should be able to:
- Understand what is used. That is what section 01 is for, and it will be kept accurate as the app grows.
- Choose what to connect. Health platform connections are opt-in, granted per category where the platform supports it.
- Disconnect. In DAOasis, and independently in the platform's own permission settings, which is the control that does not depend on us.
- Log manually instead. Using DAOasis without connecting anything is a supported way to use it, not a degraded one.
- See what we hold. Request a copy of your information.
- Correct it. Fix what is wrong.
- Delete it. Delete your data or close your account. Deleting participation history also removes the record that recognises it — that trade-off is real and worth knowing before you ask.
- Control notifications. Turn off what you do not want to hear about.
How to exercise any of these, and the limits that apply, are set out in section 15 of the Privacy Policy.
What is not built yet
A trust page that only listed commitments would be leaving out the most useful information. Here is the current state of the things this page describes.
Questions
Do I have to connect a health app to use DAOasis?
No. Connecting a health platform saves you entering information the platform already holds, but everything can be logged manually. Using DAOasis without any connection is a supported way to use it.
Is my wellness data sold or shared with advertisers?
No. DAOasis does not sell personal information and does not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Information may be shared with service providers who operate parts of the service under contract, and where the law requires disclosure — the full list of circumstances is in section 10 of the Privacy Policy.
Does DAOasis store my health data on a blockchain?
No. Health and wellness information is not written to any blockchain. DAOasis is exploring whether future infrastructure could give people greater control over verified achievements and credentials, but that is a direction rather than a feature. Section 05 covers it in full, including the problems that would have to be solved first.
Can DAOasis tell me something about my health?
DAOasis can show you patterns in what you have logged. That is a reflection of your own data, not a medical assessment. DAOasis does not diagnose or treat anything, and no insight in the app should be used in place of advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
Your information is deleted, other than what must be kept to meet legal obligations or to protect the service from abuse. Two limits are worth knowing: deleting participation history removes the record that recognises it, and anything already written to a public blockchain cannot be deleted by anyone. Retention is covered in section 13 of the Privacy Policy.
Does earning DRC mean my health data has a price?
No, and the distinction matters. DRC recognises participation — that you completed a quest, held a streak, finished a lesson. It is not a payment for data and it does not put a value on your sleep or your step count. DRC is an in-app recognition mechanism, not money and not an investment. The Token & Web3 Disclaimer sets that out properly.
